Erv lives in Cary with his wife Susan. They have four grown daughters and ten wonderful grandchildren.
The Portmans moved to Wake County more than 25 years ago to run a medical device company headquartered in Research Triangle Park. Prior to moving here, the Portman family lived in Wisconsin, Ohio, Indiana, California, Puerto Rico, and Illinois. When they moved to Wake County—this knew it was home.
In 1996, Sue and Erv ventured out and started their own company: WestStar Precision. Today, WestStar manufactures products for aerospace and medical customers across the globe.
As a small business owner, Erv knows how important it is to create good, high-tech jobs and serve customers. Erv knows what it takes to invest in personnel, their equipment, and development so Wake County can compete—and win—in a global economy.
In 2013, WestStar doubled its investment in Wake County. They never once asked our town, county, or state for any incentives to do so. Erv was raised believing that if a business is successful, it should be proud to pay its fair share to support the community.
Service is not new to Erv.
